About BTA

Next Meeting Friday 7th May 2010 7:30 PM The Ship Hotel

Kenny AGMBlackearnside Tartan Army was founded by a few like minded football fans in 2000. After travelling to many Scotland games together over the years it was decided that many people from the Newburgh area were travelling to Scotland games both home and abroad.

Although primarily set up to follow football, many of us let our love of Scotland spill over to many different sports.

The name Blackearnside comes from a battle fought during the wars of independence at a local site referred to as Blackearnside and Black Ironside. Sir William Wallace supported by Sir Duncan Balfour and many locals fought and won a battle against the forces of Edward I (Longshanks) under the command of Aymer de Valance.

We hold two ceilidhs each year and these are very well supported by many different age groups within the community. It was first decided to hold a St Andrews Night Ceilidh to raise the awareness of St Andrew within the community. This was followed 2 years later by our first Battle Anniversary Ceilidh.

With the much appreciated support given by the local community we decided that we would become more involved in local community issues. We have made local donations to many very good causes locally.

We hold our AGM on the 12th June, which is the anniversary of the battle. Weather permitting, the AGM follows a march out to the battlefield.

We hold monthly meetings in The Ship Inn on the first Friday of every month. We thank the Management and all the Staff of The Ship Inn for the hospitality and courtesy extended to us during these meetings and at other events during the year.
